PERFORMANCE NIGHTS
SIC 2024 brought the streets of Lecce to life with eight powerful performance projects that celebrated dance and culture in public spaces. These site-specific shows transformed the city into an open-air stage, engaging audiences in unexpected ways. Among the highlights, SIC participants presented a new creation developed during the festival, choreographed by the internationally renowned Lali Ayguadé, showcasing the festival’s commitment to both artistic excellence and community connection.

DEAR MIEI
CHOREOGRAPHY AND DANCE: Florian Perez
This solo explores the vulnerability of a man unsettled by his non-conformity.
It delves into how he is “weakened” by the deconstruction of the social norms that shaped him. Returning to his village, he is confronted with questions he believed he had already answered.
Several questions emerge: Do we need to cross this threshold? What if we get stuck in the doorway? How do we pass through and allow ourselves to be transformed in the process?

SUMMER INTENSIVE
CHOREOGRAPHY AND DANCE: Claudia Coretti and Nathan Guidal
Using a summer memory as the starting point: in the South of Italy is common, during summer, to see elderly people sitting on a wooden chair just outside their front door. It’s their way of passing the time and staying updated on what’s happening in the village. Summer Intensive is about bored behavior between intimates, which makes them even more active and connected.
Through a soundscape familiar to everyone we move on to a fairy-tale and suspended soundtrack, to then return back to reality.

MAGMA
CHOREOGRAPHY: Simona BrunelliDANCERS: Michela Denittis, Silvia Enrietti and Ilenia Diurno
“A weight on my chest.
Something unresolved that accompanies me.
A constant struggle to overcome one’s personal limits without letting it show. Finally realising that the magma eI carry inside me is a part of me.
I cannot erase it, destroy it.
But only learn to manage it and share my story with it”

SHELTERS
CHOREOGRAPHY AND DANCE: Chiara Fersini
Shelters is a performance exploring relationships in an apathetic society, from an immigrant’s perspective. It depicts the emotional challenges of leaving one’s culture and facing isolation coming from the lack of empathy in new environments. Incorporating elements from the choreographer’s personal history, such as Salento folklore music and her father’s voice, Shelters speaks for the often-censored stories of courageous individuals who have escaped oppression and survived their journey to a “better life”.

INTRO-VISIONS
CHOREOGRAPHY AND DANCE: Yasmin Iriel Frione COSTUME DESIGNER: Nachi Serrano and Paula Fernández ORIGINAL MUSIC: Ezequiel Tarica
INTRO-VISION is a theatrical piece that immerses the audience in the complexity of visionary knowledge processes amid a fast-paced and demanding world.
At the core of the narrative, the audience engages with the challenges of understanding the complexity of the human mind, confronting the pressure of the art market, which often favors immediate results and predictable formulas, influencing the creative process.

TARàN TRANCE
CHOREOGRAPHY AND DANCE: Maristella Martella
“Taràn is the passage from death to life, the passage from darkness to light, the northern lights/Tar, the origin of life.” The ritual and therapeutic origin of the Tarantella inspires a dialogue between the tradition of ancient healing rites and the expressive exploration of contemporary theatrical and choreutic language. Maristella Martella focuses her research on Salento’s Tarantism and the mystery of trance, starting from the study of the ritual elements specific to Mediterranean cultures. Here, the Taranta is understood as a whirling movement, a spinning dance inspired by the Egyptian Zar and Sufi dances.

SFILATE TRAME
CHOREOGRAPHY AND DANCE: Stefania Petracca VOICE: Silvia Ruggeri LIVE MUSIC: Francesco Bruno
Fragmented, unstable, inconsistent... that sense of indefiniteness in our time. In this piece, words and movements also fray, interweaving with excerpts of poems and texts, unfolding in a discontinuous flow of whispers, silences, dance, sounds, and songs. A search for coherence that invites the audience to find beauty in moments of transience.

PERFORMANCE PROJECTS
CHOREOGRAPHY: Group 1 by Maria Cristina Fontanelle Group 2 by Lali Ayguade
DANCERS: SIC students
Two SIC student groups had the opportunity to engage in two distinct creative processes, each guided by an international SIC teacher: Maria Cristina Fontanelle for Group 1 and Lali Ayguade for Group 2. These site-specific performances aim to interact with the urban environment through the choreographers’ artistic exploration.
